Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

Central Sterile Processing (CSP) Department

Complete demolition and rebuild of the CHOP main sterilization area including equipment storage and areas for sterilizing and processing equipment.

The design firm, Ewing Cole RDLA, designed the space to house all the new sterilization equipment in the most efficient layout possible working with the existing conditions. Numerous structural, electrical and mechanical modifications were documented to ensure a complete and functional CSP department.

A condensed one-year schedule was generated to complete the construction renovation while maintaining access and hospital functionality. This construction schedule was phased to allow the CSP department to function while construction proceeded around their operations. The ICRA barriers and access requirements for this project presented a challenge in that these temporary facilities had to be constantly and meticulously maintained to separate the construction operations from the daily CSP operations to prevent infections.
